We previously worked on this beautiful cedar-sided house. We painted the siding in Falu Red🎨, a color commonly used on wooden cottages, barns, and houses in Scandinavia. Combined with white trim, it creates a classic and beautiful look. As with all of our projects, we started with thorough preparation and inspection. Our client had a hickory handrail that needed some work. A section of the handrail had to be replaced, and our task was to blend the new wood with the existing finish.
To achieve a uniform look, we carefully sanded down the existing stain on the areas surrounding the new handrail installation using SurfPrep. This ensured a smooth and even surface, ready for staining. Here is another short clip of our staining process. There are a few factors that are very important when staining your deck. You never want to apply the stain under direct sun in hot weather, as this could prevent the stain from properly penetrating and cause it to dry up on the surface, leading to peeling over time. Additionally, while staining, it is very important to stain one or two boards at a time and always keep your edge wet; otherwise, you could end up with overlap marks. For most of our projects, we use two-coat stain formulas as they offer better protection in the Alberta climate.
